🚚 Delivery & Care

Production & Dispatch
Each rack is handmade to order. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks from order confirmation before dispatch. You'll receive a shipment notification with tracking once it's on its way.

Carrier & Transit
Ships via UPS to the contiguous United States and Canada. Oversized freight or rural delivery may require a signature — your tracking notification will note if this applies. Estimated transit time after dispatch: 3–7 business days. Shipping outside these destinations is not currently available.

Packaging
The rack ships fully assembled in a reinforced double-wall box with corner padding and surface wrap to protect the wood and metal during transit. Given the weight and size, the package is heavy — a second person or a hand truck is helpful at delivery.

Delivery Inspection 

• Inspect the outer box for visible damage (crushed corners, punctures, tears) before the carrier leaves.
• If wine rack damage is discovered after the carrier has left, photograph the outer packaging and all damage to the rack within 48 hours of delivery and contact me immediately.

Damage Reporting
If your rack arrives damaged, email kahlea@empressthings.com within 48 of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the packaging and damage.  Do not throw away packaging .  Needed for delivery driver.  I will work with you to resolve it — a remake is standard for carrier damage, as stated in the returns policy above.

Indoor Care for Reclaimed French Oak

• Keep it indoors. Reclaimed oak is not sealed for outdoor exposure. Avoid patios, garages, or direct sunlight for extended periods.
• Humidity matters. Maintain indoor humidity between roughly 35–55%. Extremely dry or damp environments can cause natural wood movement — this is the character of reclaimed wood, not a defect.
• Clean gently. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth; avoid soaking the wood or using chemical cleaners or furniture polish on the raw oak surfaces.
• Condition periodically. Once or twice a year, apply a small amount of food-safe mineral oil or beeswax wood conditioner with a soft cloth, then buff dry. This keeps the oak hydrated and deepens its natural character over time.
• Protect from direct heat. Keep away from heating vents, fireplaces, and prolonged direct sunlight to prevent drying or color fade.
